Abraham Lincoln
President's day is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February. The holiday is recognized differently across the country, sometimes designated to observe President Washington's Birthday, Washington's and President Lincoln's Birthdays, or other combinations of presidents. Often the holiday is celebrated to honor all those who have served as President of the United States. This is an engraving of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States. He successfully led the country through its greatest internal crisis, the Civil War, saving the Union and ending slavery, only to be assassinated as the war was virtually over. Before becoming the first Republican elected to the Presidency, Lincoln was a lawyer, an Illinois state legislator, and a member of the United States House of Representatives.
