A photograph showing a Sharps carbine owned by John Brown, abolitionist and Free State advocate. The Sharps rifles are a series of large-bore, single-shot, falling-block, breech-loading rifles, beginning with a design by Christian Sharps in 1848. The rifle was possibly given to Brown by a member of the Beecher Bible and Rifle Colony in Wabaunsee, Kansas. This photograph is part of the photograph collection and the rifle is not held at the Kansas Museum of History.
