Portrait of Samuel Johnson Crawford, 1835-1913, who served in the Union army during the Civil War and was the third Governor of Kansas from 1865 to 1868.
Date: 1860s
This portrait of Samuel J. Crawford can be used to introduce students to the third governor of Kansas and his exploits during the Civil War. In addition, Crawford's portrait might be combined with the pamphlet, state of Kansas: a home for immigrants, in order to facilitate discussion about the attempts of the state of Kansas to persuade immigrants to move to Kansas.
