The probate court ledger (Volume H) includes judgments related to cases heard at the Saline County Probate Court, some presided over by August Bondi, a probate court judge in Saline County from 1876 to 1878. Prior to his time in Saline County, Bondi joined John Brown during his raids against pro-slavery groups in Kansas. Bondi participated in the battle at Black Jack, the fight at Osawatomie, and other raids along the border of Kansas and Missouri. During the Civil War, Bondi enlisted in the 5th Kansas Cavalry until he was wounded and discharged in 1864. Bondi was, at various times, a business owner, a probate judge, the clerk of the US Land Office, and a police judge. This ledger was digitized by the Kansas Historical Society, the original is held at the Saline County District Court Clerk's office.
