The first box of files from the Kansas Attorney General's office concerning the Brown v Board of Education case. Includes incoming and outgoing correspondence amongst various state Attorneys General, particularly those states dealing with similar cases; from various institutions and agencies filing as amicus curiae (such as the American Jewish Congress and the Unitarian Fellowship); from interested lawyers and universities; and from interested private citizens either for or against desegregation. Correspondence is from before the Attorney General's office became involved in the case, from during the proceedings after the office became involved on behalf of the State of Kansas starting in late 1952, and from after the case was decided and as state Attorneys General and others began to attempt to understand the legal ramifications of the Supreme Court's decision and in some cases attempt to find ways around the ruling. Series also includes some reference materials, working drafts of documents, speeches, and both district court and US Supreme Court documents.
