These two photographs show Warren W. Shaw (1908-1992) a lawyer, military officer, and politician from Topeka, Kansas. Shaw graduated in 1931 with a law degree from Washburn University. He presented cases before the Kansas State Corporation Commission and was appointed in 1935 as Assistant Commissioner of Insurance for the state of Kansas. Shaw held this position for about two years before receiving an appointment as a judge to the Topeka Municipal Court. Around the start of World War II, Shaw left the bench to enlist in the United States Army in 1942. He served in the European theater as a judge advocate officer and was assigned to Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) under General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Shaw returned to civilian life on January 14, 1946 after he was honorably discharged as a lieutenant colonel. He returned to his legal practice in Topeka, Kansas and presented cases before the Kansas Supreme Court. In the 1950s Shaw turned to a career in politics, serving two terms as Shawnee County Attorney from 1948-1951. Before being elected in 1950 as a Republican to the Kansas House of Representatives, representing District Thirty-Three of Topeka in Shawnee County. He was re-elected for three constative terms until 1956 when Shaw challenged Republican Governor Fred Hall in the August primary for Kansas governor. Shaw secured the victory but was defeated in the November general election by Democrat challenger George Docking. After the defeat Shaw resumed his career as a lawyer and went on to become a civic leader in Topeka. On September 28, 1992 Warren W. Shaw passed away at the age of eighty-four.
