This photograph shows Sara Pettigrew McWilliams Hawes,1872-1958, in her wedding dress and hat. As a dressmaker and millinery from Washington County Kanas, she designed and made her dress and hat for her wedding. In her late teens she owned and operated her own business in the town of Washington, Kansas. On May 03, 1903 she married her husband Charles W. Hawes, 1853-1925, a local farmer, stockman, banker, and businessman from Morrowville, Kansas. For a number of years the couple owned and operated a mercantile business in Morrowville. On July 25, 1925, Charles passed away at the age of seventy-two. Sarah passed away on March 21, 1958 at the age of eighty-five.
