This set of photographs shows the Pratt Fish Hatchery in Pratt Kansas. In the first and second photographs the view is showing the bass ponds. The third image is a view of the blue gill and crappie ponds, looking north from the water tanks. In the fourth photograph the view is looking west across the pheasant ranch. In March of 1903 the Kansas Legislature approved the establishment of a state fish hatchery. The location for the hatchery was chosen on June 30 1903 when Pratt County donated 12 acres of land. Three additional acres were donated in 1905 and operations expanded to seven ponds. Today, the hatchery covers a total of 187 acres with eighty-seven culture ponds.
