This formal portrait shows Permelia Theressa "Dolly" Curtis Gann, (1863-1953), half sister of Vice-President of the United States Charles Curtis. During the Hoover-Curtis administration Dolly served as the official hostess for her brother. In this role Dolly accompanied the Vice-President to political and social gatherings in Washington D.C. She also served on a number of charity organizations, including the Senate Red Cross and the Salvation Army. On January 31, 1953 Dolly passed away at the age of eighty-seven in Washington D. C.
