This cabinet card shows Chappell Ezra Foote, (1852-1920). Chappell was born in Lenawee County, Michigan, on October 09, 1852, to the Reverend Peter H. Foote,(1803-1878), and Lorena Sawdy-Foote, (1814-1863). He moved with his parents to Iowa in 1863 and graduated from Oskaloosa, Ia. College. In 1879 Foote moved to Marion County Kansas where he became involved in politics and was elected probate Judge which he held for four years. He was appointed a member of the Kansas State board of pardons under Governor Lorenzo Lewelling's administration and during Governor John Leedy's administration was chairman of examiners of the insurance department. In 1896 he located to Kansas City to practice law, moving to Topeka in 1897 where he entered the brokerage business. Mr. Foote was commonly called the silver tongued orator of Kansas. On March 07, 1920 Chappell Ezra Foote passed away in Oklahoma City at the age of sixty-seven. Burial was conducted at Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
