The following documents pertain to matters related to Justices of the Peace in the State of Kansas. This description does not cover all the documents in this file. A letter on January 8, 1877, from George F. Bliss, notifies Governor Anthony there is a vacancy in the office of Justice of the Peace for Oskaloosa township. In the letter, Bliss states that Oskaloosa is a Republican township and will not back a Democrat. A letter of resignation on February 13, 1877, from N. A. Perrill as Justice of the Peace in and for Arvonia Township, Osage County, Kansas, and recommends W. O. Davies to fill the position. A petition on May 8, 1877, from citizens of Lowell township concerning an appointment for Justice of the Peace. A letter on July 19, 1877, from the Cherokee County Clerk, transmits a certificate acknowledging the vacancy in the office of Justice of the Peace of Cherokee township.
