The documents in this file pertain to matters related to Native Americans in Kansas. This description does not cover all the letters, only just a few. A letter on July 20, 1878, from A. Bill, advises he received a letter requesting the return of records pertaining to certain depredation claims referred at the request of Honorable J. M. Bright. A telegraph from the Topeka Committee notifies Governor Anthony, a tribe of Native Americans will pass by heading north and requests arms, ammunition, and a company of soldiers. A telegraph on September 18, 1878, from Mayor James Kelley, inform the Governor that three hundred Native Americans are driving off stock and killing herders and are within six miles of Dodge City. In the telegraph, Kelley states they are without arms and ammunition. A letter on October 2, 1878, reports of Native American activity near Buffalo and the recent killings that have occurred.
