A. A. Adams, Garnett, Kansas, photographed this tornado as it passed near Central City, Kansas, in 1884. According to a newspaper account in The Garnett Journal, Friday, May 17, 1907, this was the first photograph taken of a tornado. These three prints were all made from the same photo negative and show the various ways Adams printed the image. Adams may have enhanced the negative while printing to darken the image of the tornado as appears evident in the cabinet card (Photo *1).
